How much does it cost to set up a website?
Design costs are determined by the complexity and requirements of your website. There is an hourly charge, for the the design, development and setup.
What is the difference between a “static” and a “dynamic” site?
A static site is one that is written in HTML only. Each page is a separate document and there is no database that it draws on. What this means functionally is that the only way to update / edit the site is to manually go into each page and edit the HTML - so you'd either have to have some programming knowledge or pay someone to do it for you.
A dynamic site is written using more complex code and can do a lot more. For instance, I can provide an area where you can log in and gain acces to a back-end, where you can change various parts of the site, such as adding or removing images or information. This is because each page is constructed based on the information in a database, and the information in that database can be changed via another interface.
Dynamic sites drastically reduce future maintenance costs. Usually, they cost a little more to develop, as they require more complex coding and a content management utility needs to be developed to help you manage your website information.
Another big benefit of dynamic websites is that they only allow you to change the content of the site - not the design, so you will not be able to accidentally break the visual appearance of the site. When sites start to get very large, they have other benefits as they make data management much more efficient and your site more expandable.
What does CMS stand for?
CMS stands for 'Content Management System'. A CMS website is a site where the owner has the option of updating his own content via a secure 'back-end'
Do I get e-mail addresses with my domain name?
Yes. When you register your domain name and set up a hosting package you can open up to 30 e-mail accounts with that domain. If your domain is, for instance, www.mydomain.co.za, you can set up an account with the address

. Your hosting package also includes a web-based e-mail manager.
How does the payment process work for a new website?
I require a 50% deposit upfront with the balance payable on the day of completion/delivery.
How many pages will I need?
Every business has different needs. I will determine how many pages your site requires after learning more about your company's goals. There are companies with sites consisting of a single page and others whose sites are over 1000 pages.
Will I be able to add pages after the website has been completed?
Yes, you can add as many pages as you like, although I charge an hourly fee for these additions.
I already have a site, can you 'upgrade' it?
Yes. Depending on the methods/standards used to develop your website, I should be able to perform general maintenance or extend your site. In the case of a really poorly designed and/or developed site, we could also start from scratch, but still publish your new site under your existing domain name.
Will my site display the same way on everyone's computers?
Users may see some site elements differently depending on their browser and screen resolution setting. I design sites with that in mind and preview them in several browser types and resolution settings before publishing.
I'm not based in Stellenbosch, could I still make use of your services?
Yes. Although I prefer a face to face relationship with my clients, I can still easily do projects regardless of the client's physical location. I am also prepared to travel if the need may arise.
How long does it take you to design and develop a new website?
This purely depends on the size of the website and the requirements. On average I can complete your website from start to completion in 3 weeks. If it is particularly urgent, please contact me and we may be able to work something out.
